AEDM - Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of Art Every Day Month!
Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.

Let me tell you, I've had so much fun trying new projects that I've been wanting to try for a while. Today's project is from a tutorial by Jessica Jane Handmade. I've never worked with polymer clay before but Jessica's bird ornaments are too sweet to not give it a chance.

Jessica's instructions are super clear but she's also had a lot more experience than I have. :-) I used a small pack of Sculpey clay so I only had enough for two birds. It took a while to get the clay kneaded enough to work with. I'm not sure if the brand makes a difference in the workability. Anyone familiar with polymer clay? Still, not bad for my first time.

I used Melody Ross Chip Art punch tools for the words although Jessica's idea of clipped words/letters is super cute. Maybe next time. I didn't have any wire so I came up with the ingenious idea of using picture hanging hooks (the screw part gets baked inside). I baked those babies per the package instructions. Once cool I slapped on some paint and then a mixture of Mod Podge and glitter. Yes, those are technical terms. :-b You can add some cute ribbon or dangly pretties. Otherwise...voila!

Do does this color combo look familiar? Yup, you guessed it! Once I dress them up a bit they'll go on the tree next to the glitter houses.

Have a wonderfully crafty day!

Sweet! Love the colour scheme - they could be done to match any theme! My daughter in law does quite a bit with poly clay, & asked for some metalic powders to work into some - those turn out so georgeous, too!
